2011 - Canada Alpine Academy

International Racer and staff are excited to announce our 2011 academy
alpine training programs for K1,
K2
and FIS athletes;
Welcome to
Canmore
Alberta
's first Full
time alpine ski racing academy.
International Racer is building on its academy programs in
2010/2011, offering athletes alpine training programs based on developing solid fundamentals, supported by the fantastic training slopes of Nakiska and our talented coaching group.
The big change for 2011 will be reducing our coach to athlete ratio to 5:1 to give our athletes the best training possible.
Nakiska offers our coaches training conditions that compare with the best
dedicated training stadiums in
Europe
, with
consistent weather, hard snow and 5 dedicated slopes SL, GS and SuperG training.
International
Racer
Academy
will allow athletes to balance
the rigorous demands of alpine racing and education, so that both are
fully maximized.
Supporting education needs, our academy based in Canmore Alberta, allowes athletes flexibility to work with part time tutorial services or use privately arranged live in educators.
Our
Operational Director Luc Pelletier and Athletic Director
Jeff Books
have designed our academy based on their
combined twenty nine years of coaching experience in
Europe
,
Canada
and
Australia
.
International Racers programs are a systematic approach to skill and
tactical development with proven results.
International Racer coaches believe in building fit, strong athletes and
developing accurate alpine skills, tactics, muscle memory and mental
toughness in order to realize ones maximum potential. Our programs are
dedicated to creating champion alpine athletes.
Now accepting Expressions of Interest

Rate Conditions
1. The fee is a flat rate and is not
pro-rata for missed days or race days.
2. Away race costs are not included in the
flat camp cost, this is the industry standard practice as away race
costs cannot be fixed.
3. Please review all extra conditions of training listed at bottom of page.
4. Non-scheduled airport pickup and deliveries are
costed as an addition to the set camp fee. Non-scheduled pickups can only be serviced where resources are available to service the request. (Calgary airport is 1.5 hours drive from Canmore, so non-scheduled pickups are not trivial).
5. International Racer reserves the right to refuse admittance or alter groups based on numbers
6. All Canadian based camps must charge GST under Canadian Tax law. International Racer is legally bound to collect 5% GST of the camp fee as an exclusive cost.
7. Group places are limited, preference will be given to athletes who want a full time program. Alternative dates will be considered on application, but cannot be guaranteed
8. Without Pension will be considered on application
9. Groups must have 5 athletes to run
10 Petrol costs for races held in BC are not included in standard camp costs, due to distance. These costs will be costed with participants directly.
11. Groups in 2010/2011 will be limited to 1:5; however, on occassion logistics may require temporary changes to a 1:5 ratio. International Racer, aims to restrict these situations to logistic necessity or when the addition of a group member benefits all. eg. low point athletes training with the team.
12. Free skiing at mountains other than Nakiska will be treated the same as an away race. This will be costed seperately with participants. eg Lake Louise
13. Athletes will be provided with breakfast, lunch and dinner; however, athletes are responsible for the purchase of personal snacks.

Academy Location

Nakiska
Nakiska Ski Area, which was used
during the 1988 Olympic Winter Games, was designated
a national training centre last year. Millions of
dollars have been spent jointly by the Alberta
Government and Resorts of the Canadian Rockies (RCR)
to upgrade training facilities including: widening
three training runs to 60 metres, extending the core
training run - Mapmaker - by 650 metres, adding 11
kilometres of safety B-netting and enhancing
snowmaking on the run from top to bottom.
“Nakiska Ski Area provides the quality of ski
training for clubs and Alpine Canada athletes, and
supports the goals of Athletes at every level from
club skiers to the elite athletes on Alpine Canada
Alpin."

Norquay
As an close alternative to
Nakiska, our coaches also train our athletes at
Norquay, a mountain close to Banff.
“Norquay is where I learned to ski and it keeps me
coming back for more when I’m not chasing gold
medals around the world. At Norquay I’m sure you
will find everything you need to have a great time!”
... Thomas Grandi

Canmore
Located on the Bow River and
flanked on all sides by the front ranges of the
Canadian Rocky Mountains, the town of Canmore offers
the best of all possible worlds. Beginning with an
enviable geographic location approximately an hour
and a half from downtown Calgary and five minutes
from Banff National Park east gate, Canmore offers
not only a spectacular location but unequalled
outdoor recreational opportunities, great food, and
great shopping in the heart of some of the world's
most breathtaking scenery.
Canmore is minutes away from Banff National Park,
Kananaskis Country and Bow Valley Provincial Parks,
five world-renowned ski resorts, and six
breath-taking golf courses. With an international
airport just 1.5 hours away, Canmore has a myriad of
opportunities to offer adventurous locals and
visitors alike.
The town centre elevation is 1309 metres (4296 Feet)
with surrounding summits reaching heights of 1000
metres (3281 feet). The Bow River flows through the
heart of town connecting residents to a network of
wildlife corridors and trails. This unique geography
supports an abundance of local wildlife and
wildflowers and provides endless opportunities to
experience nature at her best in and around town.
Capitalizing on opportunities presented by the 1988
Winter Olympics the residents of Canmore turned a
small mining town with a once uncertain future into
an international tourist destination earning a
reputation for excellence and innovation. Our
youthful, energetic and well-educated population
values a vigorous, outdoor adventure lifestyle; a
lifestyle that supports and encourages an
entrepreneurial spirit. This compelling combination
has made Canmore one of the fastest-growing and most
desirable communities in Canada.

Tutors List
The following pool of tutors linked to
Canadian Rockies Public Schools represent some of the
educational talent that parents can access for international athletes
who require continuity of schooling during their academy program.
As the International Racer Academy is based in Canmore, and the on snow day is generally complete
by 1:00 pm; This allows sufficient time for athletes to engage their
schooling commitments and where needed use a tutor to accelerate
competency and keep pace with their regular school curriculum.
This option best suits athletes that have been set a
program of work by their home school.
